Preparing International students for studies in France!

The Filipe distance learning program is intended for international learners of French who would like to continue their engineering studies in France so that they can:

• improve their oral comprehension of scientific French,
• discover the particularities of the French educational system and pedagogy,
• come to terms with intercultural differences in general.

The Filipe multimedia modules contain mini lectures with interactive exercises which are intended to be used in existing French language courses in foreign universities. They may also be adapted for use in autonomous learning situations.

Current modules are arranged according to thematic units so that the student can follow and understand oral courses in French according to their fields of interest. The student, however, must already have basic knowledge of the scientific content of the particular unit he chooses to study. These modules can be freely consulted and downloaded.

What is it?

The FILIPE program freely provides:

• multimedia training modules designed for French language skills in scientific fields and intercultural awareness,
• a pedagogical guide for French teachers working abroad to help them integrate these modules into their courses,
• an exchange and help network to facilitate the use of Filipe course material.

Each module offers between 10 to 30 hours of training in scientific French.

How does it work?

The FILIPE digital teaching resources are designed to facilitate:

• learning French for science and engineering,
• adapting to pedagogical methods applied in French engineering schools
• class participation and working in typical French higher educational or industrial environments.

By whom?

A consortium of prestigious French Engineering Institutes, representing 25% of all yearly awarded « diplômes d’ingénieur » (Masters degrees in engineering) in France.

FILIPE members include the following French engineering schools:

• Groupe des Ecoles des Mines,
• Instituts Nationaux Polytechniques de Grenoble et Toulouse,
• Institut National des Sciences Appliquées de Lyon,
• Institut National des Sciences et Techniques Nucléaires,
• Universités de Technologie de Compiègne et Troyes.

The program is supported by the French Ministry of Education and Research. It is organised by several groups and committees of experts from each of these institutions.

Where?

These resources are intended to be used on a personal basis or in class with a teacher in:

• international schools which have partnerships with French engineering schools that are members of FILIPE,
• “Alliances Françaises” centres which have students who wish to apply for engineering studies in France,
• French higher education institutions which offer study programs for international students.
